{"id":3528,"date":"1967-11-15T17:37:17","date_gmt":"1967-11-15T17:37:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.becomingrichardpryor.com\/pryors-peoria\/?p=3528"},"modified":"2014-07-02T23:13:02","modified_gmt":"2014-07-02T23:13:02","slug":"schools-free-of-demonstrators-protests-suspended-for-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.becomingrichardpryor.com\/pryors-peoria\/1967\/11\/15\/schools-free-of-demonstrators-protests-suspended-for-week\/","title":{"rendered":"School Protests Suspended For Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Twelve schools with the heaviest African American enrollment rates in Peoria saw a total of 6,200 student absences in the two days following the NAACP school demonstration \u2014 about 4,200 more absences than average.<\/p>\n<p>The demonstration, which took place to protest the Peoria School Board&#8217;s\u00a0planned test integration program, were called to a halt by the absence of NAACP president John Gwynn.<\/p>\n<p>Before leaving Peoria, Gwynn read a letter he received from Peoria Mayor Lehnhausen answering the NAACP Youth Council&#8217;s previous protest against the use of disabling gas by police at Manual High School.
