Day revoked Harold Parker&#8217;s liquor license, he moved, effectively, to put the club out of business.<\/p>\n<p>The club could remain open while Parker appealed the case to the state liquor commission \u2014 which he soon <a href=\"http:\/\/www.becomingrichardpryor.com\/pryors-peoria\/1963\/01\/24\/day-v-illinois-liquor-commission\/\">did<\/a>, with successful results in the short-term.<\/p>\n<p>Though the club had been a gathering spot for any and all kinds of people in Peoria, it was much less beloved by the Mayor and his reform-minded administration, which pursued further means to shut down the club.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When Peoria Mayor Robert G.
