The Famous Door, Collins Corner, Harold&#8217;s Club: these were hubs of entertainment in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.becomingrichardpryor.com\/pryors-peoria\/view-archive-by-place\/north-washington-street\/\">North Washington Street<\/a> area.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.becomingrichardpryor.com\/pryors-peoria\/view-archive-by-place\/the-carver-center\/\">The Carver Center<\/a>, a community center that aimed to lift black Peorians into the middle class, was located on the other side of downtown from the North Washington district, in another pocket of Peoria&#8217;s black community.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/pryors-peoria\/assets\/NWS_1930s-1940s.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.becomingrichardpryor.com\/pryors-peoria\/assets\/NWS_1930s-1940s.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
