An investigation by the Peoria Journal Star into the ‘Iron Law of Housing’ — the commonly held notion that having blacks as neighbors would decrease the value of a home – discovered that the opposite was true.

The Journal Star found that deteriorating neighborhoods often attracted black homebuyers looking to get out of Peoria’s South Side slums because they had few other listings to choose from, not because they neglected to care for their homes.
