According to the American Social Hygiene Association, prostitution in Peoria increased “slightly” in 1959.

Dr. Fred P. Long, the city-county health commissioner, observed that  “the report also indicates that prostitution operations seem to be headed by people who formerly were known to be in the profession for some time.”

More significantly perhaps, Long claimed that prostitution in Peoria in 1959 was only at 20 percent the level it had been in 1950.
