Dr. Harry Wood, dean of fine arts at Bradley University, declared that the mural of his student Clarence Shivers would “broaden the understanding through art, in the tradition of the great mural painters of the Renaissance and Mexico.”

This monumental artwork depicted prominent black figures throughout history such as Ralph Bunche, George Washington Carver, Jackie Robinson, Col. Benjamin Davis, and last but certainly not least, Ernest T. Attwell, the Carver Center founder.
